Hermès was founded in Paris in 1837 by Thierry Hermès as a harness and saddlery workshop and remains family-controlled through the H51 holding company, with headquarters at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Leather goods and saddlery are its largest business, accounting for 42.6% of 2024 revenue, alongside silk, ready-to-wear, watches and perfume. The group operates around sixty production sites, most of them in France, and employs roughly 7,000 craftspeople out of about 25,000 staff.
